We hurried to get to the Academy today in time for lunch. Vonnie cooks not only good food, but healthy food.
We picked up our extra stock that we stored at the academy. That was so much nicer than having to drive two trucks like last year or overstocking the truck and trailer, so we can't move.
It rained all day, not heavy, but steady. It's in the 50's. So we were wet and cold. Our sales tonight was great in spite of the weather. It was the biggest sale yet this trip.

August 29 Helena, MT
This was a full day. We had to be in Great Falls before 11:00 for our first sale. We were busy for a full two hours with our one hour sale. One lady bought over $1300.00 worth of books. She's our biggest customer. She always buys that or more. Can you imagine taking all those books home and trying to decide which one to read first? She's the only person I know that reads as much or more than I do.
It's been cold and rainy all day. Thank goodness it wasn't this way yesterday at Glacier Park. But the rain didn't seem to hurt our sales. We had a 5:00 sale in Helena. It rained most of the time.
I told you about the contest that Mt Ellis is competing in. The top 20 schools will win $500,000. for their school. Right now they are in 21st place. What a shame if they lose it at hte last minute by one position. If you haven't voted for them on facebook = HURRY! The contest ends Sept 3. Thank you.

Glacier National Park
We loved our tour. The bus driver was fantastic. Most importantly, he was a food driver. He really knew his stuff. He's done this tour for five years now. He shared so much with us about the Park, how it started, Lewis and Clark, their trip, dates, the Blackfoot Indians, park animals, flowers, trees, rock formations, why it did what and when, etc. And to top it off, he was interesting and funny. He even sang to us.
I'll share some pictures and hope it's not too much. I have about 300 to choose from.
August 27 East Glacier, MT
We were planning on staying in Kalispell, renting a car, then play the tourist in glacier National Park. There were no available cars to rent in the whole town.
So we worked in the trailer for awhile, then started driving. Our route takes us by the south side of the park on to the east. At East Glacier we found that we could take a bus tour around the park. So we bought our tickets for tomorrow. It's an eight hour trip.
Huckleberries are plentiful in this area so we had huckleberry cobbler for supper. It was good and I'm sure nutritious, since it's a fruit.

August 26 Kalispell, MT
Here are a couple pictures of the lakes we saw yesterday. You can't see the color differences in the pictures like you can in person, but I think they are pretty anyway.
It was hot today. I think it broke a 30 year record, at 99 degrees. Tomorrow a cold front goes through. It should be 30 degrees plus cooler. We had another good sale tonight. One lady drove from Canada to pick up her order. So now we're serving two countries.

August 25 Libby, MT
We stayed in a fairly dumpy motel (have to stay in budget) but it had a very comfortable bed. I hate the hard as rocks beds.
The trip over here is so pretty. One lake was a very unusual shade of blue - very pretty. A few miles further is a lake that a beautiful green.
The Libby Church really supported this sale. It's a small Church but it was our biggest sale so far on this trip.
We saw tow people that we knew in Idaho. Pam was in the Church School when I worked there and her Mother went to our Church. Pam has three children now.

August 24 Kalispell, MT
Jim's dad would have been 100 today. He made it to 97. I'm not sure I want to get that old, this side of Heaven.
What a sale tonight. We had 5 customers in 2 1/2 hours. We got there about 45 minutes early, our first customer got there within minutes and wanted to know if we were open. So we opened early. The lst hour no one showed up.
We had a big difference in weather again today. We had to wear jackets this morning and by afternoon it was hot.
After our sale tonight we drove on to Kalispell to find a motel. The drive up here around Flathead Lake is so beautiful. We got to see the moon rise over the lake.

August 23 Missoula, MT
It's still cool here. Jim worked in the trailer all morning, while I did personal business. We didn't have far to drive. When we got to Missoula, we found our motel, then went to Rameo's for a 3:00 meal (was that lunch or supper?)
Not many people came to our sale. It was slow, but steady.

August 22 Hamilton, MT
What a long day! Jim was up by 5:00 to go out to the Academy to pick up the frozen food and the trailer. I was up by 6:00 so we could leave when he got back. The weather has been interesting. Our sale in Butte was warm, we needed a fan. By the time we got to Hamilton, it was almost cold. Hamilton is right at the foot of some mountains.
So our long day got over around 8:00. I think we're back in the grove.

August 21 Bozeman, MT
This was very low keyed, relaxed day. We read, walked, talked on the phone and ate out for supper. Tomorrow we start our sales with a double header, Butte and Hamilton. The bun begins!
August 20 Bozeman, MT
We're at our home away from home. It seems like we're at Bozeman more than any other town on our travels. Good thing we like it here.
Mt Ellis Academy is in the midst of a campaign right now. Kohl's Cares is giving away $500,000. to twenty schools for a project of their choice. Out of all the schools nationally, Mt Ellis Academy is in 18th place. That means they're in a winning position. If you are on facebook, you can go in and vote too. Everyone gets 20 votes and you can place 5 votes per school. Just go to www.mtellis.com or http://apps.facebook.com/kohlscares. Your votes will help them stay in the running. We did a 10 hour day today,so it feels like we're really back to work.

August 19 Idaho Falls, ID
It's over! That was a very busy, quick summer. We'll have to get back on the road to get some rest. (That's funny!)
Getting ready for this trip has been easier than the last four times. Experience does help. We better know what to do and when to do it. By the time we get really good at this job, we'll be too old to want to do it.
This has been a busy day. I did two loads of wash, changed the sheets, mopped the kitchen floor, finished packing our clothes and got the truck organized with the suitcases, food and junk. Then we went to the Boise store to pick up the frozen food. We left Town around 12:30. That's an exceptionally good start for us.
We're doing our restocking different this trip. Jim has found some storage places that he's having the food shipped to. We'll only be stopping at the Denver and Keene, TX stores. It'll be interesting to see how it works. It's got to be better than driving across an extra state or driving two trucks like last year.
